Amid the controversy revolving around Kangana Ranaut, an image is going viral on social media claiming that the Bollywood actress partied with criminal mastermind Abu Salem’s brother along with an image where Ranaut is seated next to a man.
Abu Salem has been convicted of multiple crimes, including the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case. He was feared in Bollywood for extorting money from film producers and actors and seizing overseas distribution rights. He reportedly worked for Dawood Ibrahim.
Former Shiv Sena MLA Shishir Shinde shared the viral image with the claim that Ranaut was photographed with Abu Salem’s brother.
Congress leaders Nagma also shared the viral image.
This image has been shared over 2900 times.
The same image is being widely circulated on Facebook with the same claim.
In our investigation, we found this claim to be false.
With the help of a reverse image search on Google, we found a 2017 Huffington Post editorial piece that carried the image. The article is titled, “Kangana Ranaut should realise she’s too talented to milk her personal life for attention.” It has been authored by journalist Mark Manuel who is also the person with Kangana Ranaut in the photograph. “Like the time the featured picture was taken at the Korner House in Khar some months ago,’ read the report.
Manuel had also shared the same picture on both his Instagram and Facebook accounts on September 5, 2017. According to the caption shared with the image, the image was shot at The Korner House in Khar at a champagne brunch to celebrate Ranaut’s film ‘Simran’.
In conclusion, an old picture of Kangana Ranaut with journalist Mark Manuel from 2017 was shared with the false claim that she was partied with criminal mastermind Abu Salem’s brother.
